Ane Howard
“…I paint for myself, and once the artwork is varnished, it belongs to all. After 20 years of exploring and living life as a creative person, painting and designing are fulfilling my most profound need to connect to the world, communicate my vision and prayers. As a mixed media artist, I intend to imbue each brushstroke with emotion, not seeking perfection but to be a witness…”
Abstract figurative oil painter, Ane Howard, tells an emotional visual story in the portraits and landscapes she paints. Using bold marks, contrasting hues, and deconstructed forms born from the expressionist movement, Howard imbues each brushstroke with meaning in order to evoke subtle moods and suggest ideas. Following a lifelong exploration of different art forms and media, Ane is now dedicated to full-time painting. Speaking about her passion for working with oil paints, she said, “Nothing has ever fulfilled my need for self-expression the way painting does.”
Ane was born in Montreal and lives and works in California. Her work has been exhibited at art galleries in Northern California, such as the Claudia Chapline Contemporary Art Gallery, the Marin Society of Artists, and Art Works Downtown. Her paintings are collected by art lovers around the globe.
