Angela Deane
"I create to get the wordless out. And to turn words into images. To live and to feel good. I'm inspired by little moments with strangers, eye contact with animals, film stills, memories, pain, elation, and beauty."
"I'm a New Yorker moved back to my undergraduate town in Florida to sprawl out for awhile in a large space. The relentless heat makes for lots of indoor longing hence the studio is rarely without me in it. With a degree in photography but always considering myself more of a painter, in the past three years I've found myself blending the two in a way - creating paintings on found photos and postcards. Blueprints to wonder."
"I use found photographs as blueprints to new creations. With this recent body of work, "Flora" I transformed vintage postcards of flowers into wailing, bemoaning, jovial, irreverent, sweet, sad and playful creatures. They sing, they chatter, they mesmerize. I have begun my first large scale painting inspired by these pieces - on canvas from "scratch" - and this is my proposal for the month and show in NYC. A group of large paintings inspired by the tiny wonders I have been creating this summer."
