SEEME IS PROUD TO PRESENT
THE STORY OF ARTIST:
Caroline Trotter
“With our rapidly changing landscape, one could argue that the significance of place has dissolved over the years. What we hope for from an artist when viewing their work is to discover the significance of a place. We all often want to escape into the memories of a better place. I tried to capture what ‘escape’ means to me, illustrating the magnetic pull of a natural environment. I see a society that is becoming more and more disconnected from nature and its natural rhythms, cycles, and seasons — ultimately disconnecting from our selves. My imagery relies on an emotional response in order to be understood, which involves the non-thinking process of presence. Presence is what is needed to become aware of the beauty and sacredness within nature. To understand presence is to simply be present. I am able to experience the moment, suspend time, and re-connect with being when in natural environments. Any artificial sounds are deadened by the life around you as though the forest wants to absorb it, and the crisp, clean air invigorates your soul. You can feel the life around you pulsating and reaffirming your connection to nature. I feel as if I am returning home.”
