THE STORY OF ARTIST:
Corinne Co
“Self Reflection: My last paintings are a series of portraits of artists I know, boxed with some of their traits. My self-portrait had to be staged underwater, in a very classical posture, pictured in my own story. I am rarely painting women. Here, I am wearing a man suit. By doing so, I am both in disguise and claiming the rights to wear a male outfit, while still showing my long hair. I am also wearing a deep sea diving helmet, voluntarily isolating myself inside a virtual fish tank, just as the painting process does. I am surrounded by silent fish. I am part of my stories or should I say my stories reflect who I am, but, like all my artwork, it has to stay ambiguous, open, and it is up to the viewer to complete the story.”
