"Photography was the first medium that allowed me to feel expressive and empowered as a teenager. I developed my first fiber print when I was fourteen, in a black and white darkroom at my high school. Photography allowed my to feel comfortable within my own skin. I started exploring the depths of myself, learning how I could communicate beautifully with the world around me."
"At sixteen I found myself walking the streets of China Town and turning the corner on Greene St. in Soho. Then taking the elevator to Mary Ellen Mark’s Studio. I spent 3 months interning with Mary Ellen Mark, the most iconic female photographer of the past three decades in portraiture, documentary and street photography. I was the youngest intern in the office that summer. I then accompanied Mary Ellen to her biannual Oxaca, Mexico photo intensive."
"My time with Mary Ellen taught me about the importance of honesty when photographing a subject and the power of intimacy. After this eye opening time with Mary-Ellen I turned my attention towards perfecting my craft and developing my technical ability behind the camera at Parson’s School of Design. During my time at Parson’s I worked with the talented Annie Lebowitz on portraiture and fashion shoots. I graduated Parson’s to quickly begin my commercial and editorial practice working with global brands and magazines."
"Day in and day out it is difficult to stomach the superficial image of femininity in the media. I have seen my strong female mentors create with such boundless vision that respects the power of women. I can feel the same desire within myself to express a boundless femininity through my work. This life long journey inward through the lens of photography has lead me to explore my own mind and the creative process. Contemplative tools such as Kundalini Yoga and ritual have provided insight into honoring my own female creative force. I hope that my work will inspire women to cultivate self-love, journey inward and respect their sisters."
