Angela Wilson

Angela Wilson is a Chilean artist whose work delves into the intricate processes of memory, exploring the interplay between remembered and forgotten traumas, objects, images, and unconsciousness. Oscillating between abstraction and figuration, she constructs symbolic spaces where time converges through layers of material such as translucent veils, ink washes, drawings, digital prints, and crusts of paint. Her pieces often feature landscapes, urban atmospheres, and portraits, creating a sense of historical and personal narrative.
Angela studied Visual Arts and Arts Pedagogy at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. She furthered her education with a Master's in Art History from the Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez and pursued studies in Visual Literacy at the School of Visual Arts in New York.

“My artwork alludes to the memory process between remembered and forgotten trauma, fantasies, objects, and images.
Unconsciousness and memory; automatism and doodling; what remains in your mind or the collective unconscious of people? ”

Working in Santiago

Angela's work encompasses varied techniques and supports, such as the use of canvases with and without stretchers, watercolor, Indian ink, synthetic enamel, oil, resin, paper, glass and acrylics, acetates, light boxes, videos, textiles, and sewing. Thematically, the work dialogues with the unconscious and memory. Producing successively superimposed layers that allude to the mind's remembering and forgetting process.
In her work, figuration and abstraction coexist; it is possible to identify landscapes, urban atmospheres, portraits, heritage photographs, and maps hidden or camouflaged behind the different layers, constituting a metaphor of an emotional space comprised of the sum of other eras. The images are grouped into fragments, as happens in dreams or memories.
Sin Titulo (Untitled)
My artwork alludes to the memory process between remembered and forgotten traumas, objects, images, unconsciousness, and memories. Landscapes, urban atmospheres, portraits, historical photographs, and texts are the first layers of my work, which move between abstraction and figuration. By obscuring form and filling the canvas with overlapping layers of oozes, drips, inks, and prints, I create a metaphorical space in which time converges in a deep sum of different material coverings: trans-lucid veils, washes with ink-diluted water, drawings, digital prints or crusts of paint.
