"For the last decade and a half, I have been obsessed and deeply inspired by the medium of photography. Even when I am not holding my camera, my eye is programmed to make imaginary frames out of life. I am constantly closing one eye and blasting the shutter sound in my mind. No matter how many times I imagine taking pictures, there is something so magical that happens when I actually bring the camera to my eye."

Here are some yogic ways I deal with my anxiety when I do not have a camera in my hand

• Breath work and mantra pairings. My anxiety is very loud during my morning and evening commutes. I take that time now to check in and practice various Kundalini breathing techniques and mantra’s I have picked up in class. 

• My sister is one of the only people that I have really opened up to about the depths of my anxiety. She helped me develop a Sankalpa, which I call upon daily.

• Cutting out the booze. Last year I did Sober January, which I hate to say, is the first time in my life I have committed to not drinking. “Like, OK, Fine, just a beer” wasn’t even an option.  I would go days without even hearing a peep from my anxiety. Now, that I am very aware of how casual drinking affects my anxiety levels, I always take that into consideration. 

• Sticking to my vitamin regimen! Again, I have to thank my sister for this one. Ash, and her boyfriend Dan gave my husband and I personalized vitamin regimens as a wedding present. I have never felt better and truly they have made a huge impact on my body and mind. 

• “Checking in” before bed. Before I go to sleep, I lay on my back and do a scan of my body. I try and notice the subtleties of how I am feeling that day, and what part of my body is, or is not in a good place. I also take that time to send out loving prayers and gratitude for all the positive parts of my day, and people in my life.
