GIACOMO D’ORLANDO
"Feeling peaceful, happy, and content is not about avoiding challenges in our life, but about how we navigate through these challenges to reach the type of life we want to live."

Giacomo d'Orlando is an Italian documentary photographer focused on social and environmental issues. "I have always been fascinated by photography since I was a kid, remember the time spent with my grandfather watching and reading documentaries about the outside world. I came from a humble family and I have never had big opportunities in my life, so if I really wanted to realize my dream I needed to create that opportunity. Life is only one, and it is too precious to spend it doing something you don't like, so I kept searching until I found that opportunity when I was 21. After four years in advertising photography, I realized that I wasn't realizing my true dream. For me photography is emotion, is the opportunity to show hidden facets of the world in which we live, raising awareness about complicated issues. So I risked everything and I left my Country and my "safe" job to go and catch my dream. I have never made a better choice in my life.
My mission in photography is to show the hidden facets of the world in which we live to the people who can't travel for many different reasons. I don't want to show them just the beauties of our planet, but I would like to increase their knowledge and understanding about our society, our cultures, and the environment which surrounds us".
