GIGI FERNANDEZ
“My Flora-series has become my signature. Usually, there are close-up angles, conveying a seemingly studio-contrived or painted scene, or one that wants to be painted, which is actually achieved from an organic setting that is wholly shot in New York City.
My photographic story captures the impressions that come through the senses, using close-up viewpoints, conveying a moment or a portion of a larger object, and delivering a new perspective or awareness about the subject being shot. Every move made, and thought had, leaves an idea worth examining and pausing for. I approach subjects in their natural environment, and set compositions into frames using the active context, precise angles, certain proximity, light, and depth. I strive to communicate an intuition into the legacy of the things around us, be it insignificant material or not, to create imagery through a painterly lens.”
