MATI RUSSO
"Art is the forgery of broken dreams"
Mati Russo is a contemporary abstract artist, born in New York City and currently living in the Los Angeles area. Her art is influenced by personal experiences from life in New York (including the attacks of 9/11) and across the country to the West Coast, as well as by world events. Her work juxtaposes beauty and pain and illuminates the connections and barriers between. Russo intends her work to evoke the viewer to reflect on their personal lives and the shifting currents of the world around them. Her work began as and continues to be a journey into visual sensuality, it has evolved into a social consciousness which engages the current national and global crisis, both head-on and obliquely.
"I try to create and pass messages through my art. I believe the only true way for human beings to nurture and sustain ourselves and our planet is first through empathy and love. As an artist, I try to express beauty and pain as well as astonishment and angst, while asking the viewer to reflect on their own inner reality and the reality which surrounds us all. Whatever the source of inspiration, the personality and message of each piece evolves in its own unique way until it reveals itself to completion and stands realized - ready to face the world on the wall".
