THE STORY OF ARTIST:
MAYA SIMMONS
“Having resided in four different countries for an extended period of time, I was exposed to various cultures from an early age which ultimately led to my fascination with how people occupy space. Through my rigorous training in graphics and illustration, I developed a keen affinity toward precision and process. As a self-taught painter, my experience with numerous media and subject matter led to my vision. I chose acrylic paint as my medium which in addition to being technically versatile, is thematically appropriate. My 2-dimensional paintings are composed of superimposed images that when combined with intricate patterns form a nontraditional style of portraiture. In my patterns, my objective is to portray an innovative reinterpretation of space where the human form blends into the dynamic geometry of this world.
My ultimate goal is to create an image that seduces the viewer creating an intimate interaction on a subconscious level. I endeavor to continuously navigate uncharted waters in order to take my artwork to the next level, always reinventing my technique.
Dreams have inspired and influenced the direction of my work tremendously and I am hopeful that they will continue to guide me…”
