MEDA NORBUTAITÉ

Meda Norbutaité’s artistic journey is fueled by a profound interest in human life, relationships, emotions and behavior across various spheres. She believes that art requires the acquisition and interpretation of signs through a personal worldview. Through her works, she explores social, political, ecological, and other relevant topics, expressing her thoughts through the use of irony, symbols, and metaphors. The element of the grotesque helps convey her unique perspective on things.

As a child, she discovered the joy of art as a form of creative expression. This passion became a recognized hobby, and upon graduating from art school, she was invited to teach drawing and painting at her alma mater.

While addressing broader societal themes, Norbutaité also delves in the subjects of self-knowledge, nature, and psychological exploration, revealing the complexity of human emotions. However, she believes that these themes are not solely personal; they resonate with universal human experiences. The narratives in her paintings serve as reports on our behavioral intentions.

In my paintings, I often incorporate provocative images that evoke thoughts and emotions, and invite introspective dialogue. I aim to compare observations with visually informative insights into personal experiences, allowing the essence of the proposed topics to shine through.

Gintautas Mažeikis, a renowned Lithuanian philosopher, aptly described her art as “...moderately surreal and postmodern, associate with baroque and Peter Paul Rubens, seeking to reveal the energy and sacrifice of the spirit, inspiring the spirit’s stagnation and inviting it to soar with the birds.”
