MICHAEL ANGELO GAGLIARDI
Michael Angelo Gagliardi is a born and raised New Yorker specialized in painting and sculpture. He spent his early career pursuing the creation of art in a wide range of techniques, styles, and forms. During this time, he was strongly influenced by Neo-Expressionism. After earning a Master’s degree in Theatrical Design, Gagliardi began his professional art career by creating an alternative space in Manhattan during the mid-1980s which he named The Revolving Door Gallery. He also began working as a professional scenic artist and stage craftsperson with off-Broadway productions at this time.
In 2009, while working on tour for the Broadway Musical "Mary Poppins", Gagliardi had a work-related accident that resulted in a spine injury and permanently retired from the theater industry. Since then, he continues to live in physical pain, but he considers himself lucky that he was able to continue making his art.
Currently, his artwork tells stories that revolve around a character or characters in conflict within an environment rich with symbolic imagery and motif. For Gagliardi, the nature of the story determines the medium, because different stories require different techniques. He works in both two-dimensional and three-dimensional media, using oil and acrylic paints, colored pencil, and crayons, as well as steel, cement, and stone.
Gagliardi lives on his tree farm in High Springs, Florida with his wife. Throughout his career he has exhibited his work in Galleries and Museums in NYC, Brooklyn, Chicago, Los Angeles, Orlando, Tampa, Miami, to name a few.
