Monika Teal
"The materials I use and my subject matters are traditionally feminine, or what might have once been called "women's work." I love working with "women's" materials, such as fibers, beads, and craft materials, as well as painting themes that lend themselves to a woman's perspective. Much of my art making is also centered on process, namely on creating problems and then solving them."
Monika Teal left her rural home in the American South at 18 to begin her art studies. After attending the University of Minnesota and Western Carolina University, culminating in a Master of Arts degree. She continued her art studies for four years in Seattle at the Burnley School of Art (now Seattle Art Institute) and the New School of Visual Concepts. She is the recipient of the North Carolina Visual Arts Fellowship. In 1992 she became a double citizen, Swiss/American.
She has exhibited widely in galleries and museums in the US and Europe, including museum and gallery exhibitions across the US as well as in Germany, Switzerland, Italy, France, Hungary, Romania, and Cuba. She remains open to change and challenges.
