THE STORY OF ARTIST:
PAOLA DE STEFANO MERAZZI
“I was born in Como, a little town in Northern Italy on a lake of glacial origin that bears the same name, surrounded by mountains. I’ve been making art for as long as I could pick up a pencil. I spent my childhood, my teen, and my young adult years in Italy. As an adult, I’ve spent most of my time in and around New York City, living the City in all his glory. I think that’s a pretty good mix. I turned out just fine. I split my time between a career in visual art, surface, and product design.
Have you ever wondered: What was she thinking? What was her life about? What were her aspirations? Was she okay? Was she comfortable or desperate? Was she happy? Was she able to realize her dreams? When I was much younger, I used to daydream about the life of the girls depicted in famous portraits. Over the years my vision about their lives has evolved, changed and morphed by my own experience about life and by women’s place in our society.
This series is dedicated to those women, made famous by the artists who painted them of which we can only guess their whereabouts, and to young women of any age who have the courage to have a dream and go for it.”
