ROCIO VILLANUEVA
Rocio Villanueva is a self-taught Italian-Guatemalan photographer and artist living in Guatemala.
"I create figurative pieces with individual narratives and leave space for the viewers to interpret for themselves in a nostalgic, and fantastic feeling of another time, possibly an imaginary place. The world we knew will no longer be the same, everything transformed, we need to deal effectively with this, so it is necessary to learn to accept those changes. If we cling to ignoring that everything is not permanent, we will be frustrated and unhappy. Detachment from material things, social relationships, and thoughts is the way to achieve wisdom and liberation from the spirit".
Villanueva uses digital photography as her canvas and intervention through Photoshop as her tools for creation. Her creative process begins beyond the computer: it starts with a paper sketch that takes shape through different elements, time, places, and characters. Her images represent parallel worlds with the use of light and shadow, color and textures that create a different vision of nonexistent places with a painterly look.
