ROWLAND SCHERMAN
In honor of Juneteenth, we proudly share the photography of see|me member, Rowland Scherman, who captured The March on Washington on August 28th 1963. More than 200,000 gathered peacefully to demand equal justice for all citizens under the law”.
“Is it a blessing or a curse if your first real assignment as a photojournalist is the biggest, most important event in American History? I had an official pass and was able to see it all”.
“It was a day of songs and speeches. The songs, as the crowd was gathering, enhanced the mood that prevailed: The people of this country wanted change, and echoing the classic, can-do spirit that we all thought and believed America was founded upon, we marched”.
“My intention was to show those millions of Americans who couldn’t be there what the scope and majesty of it was like.
