ZIGOU BENI
French painter and furniture designer Zigou Beni traces her creative journey back to her illustrious days in New York as a stylist and costume designer for the likes of Yves St Laurent, Pierre D'Alby France and Suzuya Japan. Trained as a fashion designer, her work was recognized on the covers of Elle, Vogue, and the New-York Times.
At home in Dordogne, France, Beni paints stylized images of women; her visible brushstrokes emphasize line & movement, while subjects often inhabit the foreground of the canvas so that she can distill and emphasize elements. Abstract and surreal symbols often flit through the background. In addition to painting, Beni is currently working on a unique collection of metal furniture with Baroque and Surrealist influences.
“I paint and celebrate women; My painting is positive, and I dedicate my painting to women of my time. I paint beauty and create portraits that mirror the soul. I paint strong women as they should be”.
