STEPHEN SPILLER
Stephen Spiller works and lives in New York, NY, USA. He is a self-educated photographer who, in the early nineteen eighties, began making black and white images of people on the streets of Los Angeles, New York, Paris and other metropolitan cities. Spiller now digitally manipulates his past and current images, adding text for example, to help establish and present the political and social positions which are the foundation of his oeuvre. His work explores subjects such as identity, racial prejudice, religion, gun violence, women’s rights, etc.
Spiller is a founding member of FotoNostrum Gallery, the largest photography gallery in Barcelona, Spain. He participates frequently in online exhibitions, especially those sponsored by the Los Angeles Art Association (CA). His work has been exhibited extensively in the U.S. and internationally in major cities and venues including New York, NY(Oculus at Westfield World Trade Center); Los Angeles, CA (L A Center For Digital Art); Miami Beach, FL (Spectrum Miami Art Show); Buenos Aires, Argentina (The Palais de Glace); Malaga, Spain (Municipal Museum); Berlin, Germany (The Palazzo Italia); Beijing, China (Czech China Contemporary Museum); Barcelona, Spain (FotoNostrum Gallery); Tokyo, Japan (The National Art Center of Tokyo), and more.
