A BROAD CANVAS
STORIES ARE ALWAYS RELEVANT, AGE-OLD AND PERSISTENT, YET UNIQUE AND EVER-NEW
This month the See|Me Community is launching a new feature on our webpage to give artists an opportunity to share their experiences, influences, goals, creative process, and vision, as well as their concerns.
‘A Broad Canvas’ will introduce you to artists from different backgrounds, cultures, and points of view, in which ideas, personal journeys, and politics are all welcome.
Since time immemorial, art has been a way to connect to and learn from each other, as well as a platform for social commentary and a means to envision the future.
At See|Me, we recognize that our vibrant global community is a unique platform for artists to voice their point of view as expressed through their art and words, and to that end, we are excited to offer a wide range of perspectives.
A Broad Canvas will launch our first series with a focus on four black artists, Teddy Mitchener, Isimi Taiwo, John Powell, and Tamary Kudita, beginning with photographer Teddy Mitchener. American by birth, Teddy now lives and works in Nairobi, Kenya with his wife and children:
I grew up in Washington DC and Brooklyn around family and friends who all had African art in their homes but it was the masks on the walls that intrigued me” - Teddy Mitchener
Read Teddy’s story here, look for more interviews in the coming weeks.
