JOAN COLLINS

Joan Collins
creates painterly surfaces with acrylics on canvas, paper, and board. Her paintings are abstract in style but grounded in natural and urban landscapes. She is currently working on a collaborative exhibition, ‘SWING’, a visual dialectic of ‘call and response’ created through photographs and paintings. Collins lives and works in Scottsdale, Arizona.
“I paint like a sculptor, moving, adding, and scraping paint around the canvas. This technique results in striking contours made of heavy, opaque color and texture against thin, filmy transparency. I also make many of my brushes for effect, using feathers, ropes, wire, and other desert and beach findings. I often compare my creative process to jumping off a cliff into an abyss, then floating in the adrenaline of the experience.”
