Jacob Yeung
"Photography tells a story about our humanity."
"I am a first generation Chinese American born and raised in Michigan. I first got into photography after high school, doing volunteer work all throughout the southeast region of the United States and documenting my year long journey with a point and shoot camera. After my stint volunteering, I enrolled into community college in the Detroit suburbs and started getting familiarized with the darkroom process. After taking as many classes I could at the community college, I moved onto Columbia College in Chicago to study photojournalism and documentary photography. My work varies from single frames to long-term projects examining demographies."
"Photography tells a story about our humanity. My work offers insight to the world seen through my eyes, helping to build a better understanding of each other through visual storytelling. I am inspired by photojournalist and documentarians who work to inform us about the world we live in. For the past several years, I have been concentrating my work in and around Chicago's Chinatown, where a significant amount of new Chinese immigrants have been moving into the decade old established Chinatown. I've been photograph within the changing neighborhood, focusing on what keeps it a unique neighborhood in Chicago."
