Julia Gat
"My main inspiration has always been the wonders of daily family life."
"I'm a photographer/curator (b.1997 Israel) based in France. I currently study Humanities at the Open University. I study photography since 2010, through workshops with professionals and intensive internships at art spaces. Since 2014, I teach photography workshops for adults and kids."
"With the series "SARA", I seek to document the subject of childhood, adolescence and the transition in-between. These images question the very nature of youth, going beyond the documentary into a dreamlike universe. The strong presence of my 9 year old sister represents for me some kind of autobiography: through her daily life, I find a parallel with my own experience of youth."
"I grew up as the oldest of 5 in an unschooling family. Having a choreographer and a painter as parents, the art world quickly attracted me and I began practising photography at the age of 13. "
"SARA" won the First Prize of Festival Portrait(s) 2016, is exhibited since 2012 (including a show in Bushwick in 2015), and was self-published with the help of Filigranes Editions. My curatorial project "Family Business" present international photographers working on family documentation. The next exhibition will take place during Exchange Rates in Bushwick 2016.
