THE STORY OF ARTIST:
MARIA MORALES
“I was born in Portugal and moved to New York where I earned my BFA in Illustration from Parsons School of Design in New York City. Having created artwork for many years, I am currently teaching workshops and classes. My career has spanned graphic design, print production, web design, computer graphics trainer, and technology strategy and research but I have always pursued my primary passion for creating artwork. “Creating art is a journey that fills me with excitement, peace of mind, and takes me away from the concerns and stresses of daily life.”
The majority of the paintings I create show how color, light, and form enhances the human figure and depict luxurious nuances and sensual color harmonies The intention of the artwork is to showcase the human form in a way that is dignified and beautiful. Composition, colors, and details are used to achieve a feeling of elegance and grace. More recent work has been in the vein of political and social awareness and commentary. We are currently living in a very divisive time between people, ideas, politics, and our future. This work aims to showcase some of the issues we face, to question some of our ideas and rethink our assumptions. I use symbolism, pay homage to masters of the past, and incorporating various mediums to achieve the final work.
I am also very excited by different styles of painting and a variety of subject matter so that my work encompasses figurative, floral, still lifes, landscapes, abstract, and political/commentary in realistic and stylized renderings.”
