STEPHANIE POPPE
Poppe has been working to develop her artistic style since 2013 but her creative eye began to develop itself long before that. Born in 1984 in Antwerp, Poppe’s work as a paper and embroidery artist is influenced by her family’s history working in the textile industry during the 20th century. Her education as an art historian and restorer of works on paper has also shaped and developed her artistic practice.
“I suppose I would describe my art as both calculated and intuitive. I always remain curious about the synergistic relationship between art and architecture, nature and culture, history and the present. Like a spider, I create intricate yet minimalistic structures that reflect this fragile equilibrium.”
Poppe finds patience, balance, and harmony to be key concepts in her art. The push and pull between urban and rural life have also become an important dichotomy for her as well. Poppe currently lives between Belgium and France, continuing to find inspiration for her work at every turn.
