Suzan Lotus Obermeyer
“I was born an artist. My mother’s relatives were performers and my paternal grandfather was a painter. As a kid, I studied my Grandfather’s paintings for hours and hours. This is how I got to know his mind, the order and sequence of brush strokes, and decisions. Once I became a student, I took a year-long foundational art course, and I fully claimed myself as a painter right then.”
Suzan Lotus Obermeyer’s childhood was nurtured by the landscapes of Colorado and Southern California, while her painting practice is informed by her travels and cultural studies.
Obermeyer’s education was both experiential and from study. She earned her MFA through Plymouth University, UK. Many years prior, she began printing with Master Printer, Craig O’Brien. He printed with a slew of greats, Robert Rauschenberg, Jasper John, Andy Warhol to name a few. Craig guided Suzan on a path towards experimental Monotypes.
For her undergraduate studies Obermeyer attended, The San Francisco Art Institute and earned her BA from The Evergreen State College. Over the years she has attended artist residencies in Berlin, NYC, Brooklyn, Italy, Marfa, TX, and at the Anderson Ranch in Snowmass, CO.
