Xan Cambeiro was born in Spain in 1963 and has been living and working in the NYC area for the last 45 years. Xan’s abstract paintings work mostly with the elements of color, time and place. The color and brushwork attempt to create moments on canvas or paper that are in ways similar to how we visually and emotionally experience particular landscapes and specific moments in time and place. The landscapes of northwestern Spain and the northeastern coast of the US are usually the sources for the images expressed in an abstract language. The result is a body of work that reflects and speaks of the artist’s own personal history and experiences.
