THE  STORY OF ARTIST:
JOE LAMATTINA

“From 1975 through 2010, I was employed as an art instructor with the Hackensack Public School System in New Jersey. For one year after that, I taught international students at the P.I. Art Center in Fort Lee, NJ. Loving my job as a teacher and mentor, I spent those thirty-six years focusing most of my energy inspiring art students from five to sixty-five. It was an amazing journey.

Since retirement, I decided to continue my journey with a shift, which allows me more time to focus on integrating my studio time, private teaching, and gallery shows. It has also offered me opportunities to exhibit my work at very interesting venues around the world.

As an artist, I love to interpret the human body. After reading the criteria for “S/He Persisted”, I went through some of my images seeking those, which to me, truly represented feminine power. Having several, I immediately came up with my favorite ten, plus two that I was inspired to create on-site. Since much of my work is filled with vibrant color and texture, while with others, I have struggled to keep them black & white and more muted, I finally decided to submit three from each grouping. For me, each woman has a personal story to tell. ”
