OLIVIA MAGDELENE
Olivia Magdelene is a writer, abstract artist and nonprofit consultant. A former political journalist, her professional background includes two decades of comparative religion research, Magdelene is also a non-denominational crisis counselor in her spare time. Magdelene’s art is uniquely original and crafted using meditation techniques she learned during traveling the past two decades. Her work is commissioned for use as a focal point in meditative practice or as personal decor representing deeply spiritual experiences. She also creates 2nd Life Sculpture works out of broken sculptures and trash to keep these items out of landfills. Art from the 2nd Life Sculpture series is given to organizations and individuals who cannot afford her original artwork.
During my time spent among Tibetan Buddhist monks, I became known as “Jagged Lotus.” I am neither calm nor gentle on the inside. I am jagged and uneven and a little dark. So is my art. I endeavor to instill a meditative sense into every piece.
Magdelene divides her time between New York City and Atlanta. Her humanitarian efforts include work with Powering Potential, The Nechung Foundation & Monastery, Tibet House, The Aidan Jack Seeger Foundation, The Greenpoint Gallery, The Tibetan Refugee Health Care Project, and much more. Her art and commitment to giving back are deeply connected.
